Sample question
Costs and Pricing
A manufacturer has fixed costs of £20,000 per month and variable costs of £5 per unit. If each unit sells for £15, what is the break-even quantity?
✓ Correct answer: B — 2,000 units. Break-even quantity = Fixed costs ÷ (Selling price − Variable cost per unit) = £20,000 ÷ (£15 − £5) = £20,000 ÷ £10 = 2,000 units. Below this quantity the business makes a loss; above it a profit.
